the clothes speak for themselves at Rocky Star
Some shows are full of gimmicks, eccentricity and viral moments. Others are simply about skilled craftsmanship and beautiful artistry. Rocky Star Couture AW26/27 falls into the latter category. Inspired by the lingering glamour of another era, on Thursday, 17th September, models stepped out into a candlelit St John’s Church, just a stone’s throw from Hyde Park, in the most ornate of gowns.
The sense of old-world charm was felt from the word go. Hand-embroidered corsets, intricate beading and delicate feathers culminated in an elegant, Art Deco inspired collection, leaving guests feeling as though they had stepped into The Great Gatsby.
The most striking detail was perhaps the fluidity within the garments. Loose, flowing elements paired with rigid bodices created a stark contrast, and cascades of teardrop-shaped sequins caught the light with every movement. The garments felt like more than clothes; they came alive.
Amongst the gowns, we were offered a taste of Rocky Star’s menswear. Whilst perhaps not as extravagant as the womenswear, the designer explored texture and differing proportions, whilst adding subtle hints of femininity with floral embroidery and crystal appliqués.
In an industry obsessed with seeking out the next viral moment, there was something refreshing about witnessing a show that was solely about the clothes. Perhaps if they’d been mediocre, it would have fallen flat, but the quality and elegance shone through. That was the beauty of Rocky Star’s collection; the clothes spoke for themselves.
